It may shock you but I am going to go out on a limb and say for most people...no. At least not in the mainstream sense of the term. The main problem with deprivation diets is that they give you fast results and work while you follow them strictly but, the second you cheat or realize that you are not going to be able to live like this the rest of your life, you crash right back to where you started.
This is why I encourage people to "diet" sustainably by finding ways they can maintain a healthy, portion-controlled meal plan they can live with.
The importance of what you eat affects every other aspect of a healthy lifestyle. You can lose weight, boost your metabolism, increase your energy, have better sex and a host of other things just by maintaining healthy eating habits.
