Counting calories

Counting calories is what a lot of people do to lose weight. It may work for a bit but in order to lose the weight you want and keep the weight off you are going to have to become a little more dedicated. The amount of calories you take in is key to losing weight but so is the kind of food you are eating, when you are eating, what exercises you are doing and how aggressive you make your goal.

Say you are limiting yourself to 1200 calories a day, only eating twice a day, but not considering what is in those 1200 calories. This will help you lose some weight, depending on how much you have to lose, but once you get down to the last 15 to 25lbs you are going to have big problems.

First of all, your body starts to adapt, slowing your metabolism down because it's not getting enough food to sustain itself. Your body also stores fat first and uses other means to full your body, so instead of losing "fatty" weight you may start to lose muscle. This is where the "what" you eat comes in to play, if you're only eating salads and cookies you are not getting the nutrients you need. I would go as far to say if all you are only taking 1200 calories you are not ever going to get the nutrients you need.

My advice to you, don't ever just count calories, it will only get you so far. This article from AskMen has some calorie counting myths you may be falling for right now.
